maxon expands its engineering team

Introducing Ronak

My name is Ronak Samani. I am a recent engineering graduate and joined maxon only a few weeks ago as a Technical Engineer. My role is to help customers choose and use maxon products. As a way of introduction, here is some information about me.

Why engineering?

My motivation to pursue a career in engineering began, at school, when I was fifteen years’ old. My work experience placement was at BAE Systems, shadowing an engineer working on an aircraft. I told myself, in ten years, I would be an engineer. I continued my academic studies, completing a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering and then went on to an Integrated Masters programme at the University of Leeds. I graduated in 2019 with a Master of Engineering degree in Aeronautical and Aerospace.

I then relocated to Somerset to work on the development of a revolutionary autonomous unmanned air vehicle (UAV) designed for humanitarian aid delivery. After my contract finished, I returned home and then COVID-19 took over the world and the UK went into lockdown.

Why maxon?

For my next position, I wanted to apply my technical knowledge and gain experience in the production and development of products. Maxon’s range of products can be found in every industry from medical to aerospace, so it was definitely of interest. I had a telephone interview with Will Mason, Managing Director of maxon UK & Ireland. The discussion was very positive. However, because of lockdown, a recruitment freeze waved throughout the UK. A few months later, Will approached me for a face-to-face interview. I could feel the vibrancy of the maxon office. As a huge fan of sci-fi movies, I thought I was in Tony Stark’s living room when Will showed me some of the products and applications maxon is involved in! I wanted to work within a customer-focused environment where I could help customers with their projects and grow my technical knowledge. I saw maxon as a perfect fit for both my future career aspirations and personal development.

Outside work

I’m quite the extrovert and love to be social with family and friends. I enjoy engaging in outdoor activities, love finding hiking trails with my dog. I have a passion for diving and hoped to achieve a diving qualification this year, but, due to social distancing, it’s been difficult to do so. I’ve always had an interest in astronomy, no surprise having a background in aerospace! Possibly one of my memorable moments throughout lockdown was waking up early and being able to see planets visible in the night sky and becoming familiar with the constellations in the northern hemisphere.
